Local town memorials

After the Great War local communities of all sizes throughout Australia began to erect permanent memorials to honour the service and the sacrifice of their sons and daughters. Many were statues of a lone digger, with bowed head and inverted rifle, however other structures served the same purpose. Community halls, memorial gates, stone features and planted trees were also dedicated as daily reminders of the price paid by those who served and their families.
