Watercolour Fighters!

Very few pilots, no matter how good their machine was, considered taking a camera up to capture fights with the enemy. Fair enough. There was a lot to do and any distraction for even a few moments could see an enemy scout on your tail.

Consequently it took artists, sitting with airmen, or airmen who were artists, to capture the excitement of combat above the trenches on canvas. In vivid colour they made a great postcard.
